NZAVS Bright Future Report: An Exciting New Resource for You!

Learn about the technologies that are outperforming animal methods!
November 7, 2024

As a fierce supporter of NZAVS, you know we work tirelessly to end harmful experimentation involving animals. One of the most common misconceptions we come across is that animal experiments are just a necessary evil without valid alternatives.

We can all agree that it is morally wrong to keep using animals if there are better ways of doing science. So, are there?

Today, we show you how far science has come. Not a glimpse into the future, but into the very present. Technologies that are available right now, downright outperforming animal models left right and centre.

Our new resource: The NZAVS Bright Future Report!

Our Bright Future Report shines a well-deserved light on some amazing scientific methods that can advance the way we do research, such as:

  • Sophisticated computer models predicting toxic effects with 89% accuracy! The animal model reaches 69% at best.1
  • Chemical methods replacing animal use for toxin-testing. These methods allow researchers to test for shellfish toxins without poisoning mice.2
  • Laboratory tests on human skin and eye tissue are enabling researchers to identify skin- and eye-irritating ingredients that were missed in rabbit models. They are also correctly marking the ingredients that caused a reaction in rabbits but are safe for humans.3
  • Blood-Vessel-Chips are showing the whole process of blood clotting due to a medical treatment that was not picked up at all in monkeys.4
  • Gut-Chips are showing lethal mercury poisoning in humans by amounts that leave mice and rats entirely unbothered.5
  • Organ-chips made for individual patients. These chips accurately predict how the same cancer treatments succeed or fail for each patient!6
  • Lung-Chips with immune cells perfectly mimic human patient data of COVID-19 infections, which is impossible in mouse models as their immune reactions are different.7
  • Liver-Chips from human tissue are catching 87% of liver-damaging drugs that had previously passed animal testing.8
  • Animal-free products. We let you in on laboratory media, traditionally "harvested" from unborn calves. Animal-free products are consistently performing better than those archaic materials in stability, quality9 and repeatability10.
